My Flag + Guitar Hero Guitar

Okay, so to get myself psyched up for some more advanced painting projects I want to experiment with (and partially to justify spending money on my new found painting hobby), I decided to modify my Guitar Hero III guitar by painting my flag on it, seen here. I also decided to take a few pictures of the process, and I might as well break them down step by step just what I did:

1) I saw Larry The Cable Guy had an acoustic guitar with the Confederate Battle Standard on it, so I sought to replicate the general design. The saltier was marked off with blue painter's tape, and lemme tell you, working around the obstacles - the strum point, whammy bar, analog stick and Wii Remote window - was a bitch.

2) Next, I painted the rest of the body yellow. Peeling the tape off left a perfect outline for the saltier, which I was immensely thankful for; it'd probably take me days and much more profanity to do it without the stuff.

3) Once the paint dried, it came time to lay the tape for the fimbriation (trim) on the saltier. I was also grateful to find out that the paint didn't come off when the tape was peeled away, so it made outlining the trim much simpler. The center part (the part of that would stay white) was very tricky. I couldn't possibly make a clean lengthwise tear of the painter's tape, and I didn't trust myself to cut it while it was still on the roll, so I had to fold the lengths of tape in half so that they would stick in the desired fashion.

4) And all that was left was to paint the fimbriation. I bought a basic paint set (12 different colors), but was bummed to find out (too late, obviously) that purple wasn't included. So I had to run back out and buy a tube; the smallest they had was five times the size of the tubes in the set. So that explains the beast of a purple tube of paint dwarfing the other twelve.

5) And there we have it; snap the neck back in, reattach the shoulder strap, and voila! The finished product. I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out. Though I don't think I'll find too many ways to lash my flag onto other paraphernalia any time soon.
